I've been inspired by The Muse and Radiohead and I know that I can do stuff like they do, much like Scott Weiland did his 12 Bar Blues side project. I just need to get a sample program and i was wondering if anybody here knew of some software that would work well or at least work well enough for a good start. Any ideas? |

umm...how do they do stuff? Cause i could just recommend getting a MAC with Garageband and say have fun. |

I assume you're talking about a small indie production, right? Tobs is right about Garageband, from what I understand. A ton of people use that and does a great job. Mac only, I'm afraid... But If you're really interested, Lisa has a mac powerbook laptop and G5 tower she's not using anymore... would certainly part with them for a good price.
The PC equivalent would be something like Acid Pro. Little costly at around a few hundred bucks... there is a trial version however.
Both of those programs are considered "prosumer" and feature multi-track recording... which is essential if you're recording a full session.
Now, maybe you don't need a hi-tech suite. Maybe you're doing this solo and want to lay down tracks separately. If that's the case, definitely check out Audacity. Highly recommended... oh... and it's free.
