cayenne brownies are teh good. Im always a fan of spicey food combined with other things.

The thing about adding brown sugar or nutmeg instead of cinnamon is that the cinnamon naturally has a bite. THe cayenne flavor get's trumped by the cinnamon flavor, but the spiciness is preserved, and thusly, it complments the cinnamon flavor very well.

Not to say, though, that brown sugar or nutmeg would taste good. I think if you wanted to get closer, you could use the nutmeg, but both (i would think...Ming can help me with this one) would work just fine.

I think Scrumm suggested brown sugar and/or nutmeg because she may be allergic to cinnamon...if I remember correctly from another thread...right?

At any rate, they're brownies...they're like an open canvas with which you should feel free to add whatever you think would make them more "colorful". That said, I'm not sure the brown sugar would add that much flavor to them, because I'm not sure the flavor can overcome the strong taste of chocolate...but I'm not really an avid baker, so I don't know. Nutmeg, as well, I'm not very experienced with using, but I don't see why you couldn't give it a shot. I'm sure it'd taste pretty good either way.

Also, I wanted to just clarify (in case anyone cares)...I didn't make the brownies from scratch because this was just a quick experiment. I used Ghiradelli brownie mix, which I was very impressed with, flavor wise. If I were to make them from scratch, it would probably be this recipe...

Brownies by Alton Brown

Looks like I'll be dining alone if I ever make mint brownies. Dloe has informed me of the crime it is to alter a perfectly good Peppermint patty.

More for me then...nom nom nom

OOO, I just thought of something else minty!!! Junior Mints!, that would be really good in brownies!!!

You probably don't even have to cut them up...you could just mix them right into the batter...then you'd get awesome little peppermint explosions littered throughout your desert.

Thanks, Ming and Tobias! Nutmeg has a pretty similar flavor to cinnamon, just without the bite (and you were right Ming, although while I don't think I'm still allergic to it, I still have an aversion to it). Ghiradelli brownies sound good! Although if I go that route, I won't be able to share it with Max. Looks like I'l have to experiment for a bit and figure out what works; I'll post a recipe when I have it =D
