OK, shoot him.
I mean, you can pay Goodman who is NOT the star and Ricci but you get some no name TV actor kid to play Speed Racer himself. If you're gonna go the Superman route then get a cast of up-and-comings and just make the villian the draw.
Emile Hirsch has done nothing noteworthy in his entire career but you lay the entire movie on him. He can't get past one episode in anything he's done and he's been in the most Bombingest movies ever made. And here he's doing his best Tobey Maguire impression. Goodman has to be there for comic relief since that's what Pops was anyway.
I'd rather have Michael Chiklis
or even Tom Arnold
or Jim Carrey in a fat suit. |

I have to say I like Emile Hirsch. I liked him in Girl Next Door. I even want to see Into the Wild. I'm impressed with his acting and I feel he'll be able to pull it off.
At least they didn't toss the role to Shia LaBeouf. Yeah he's a decent actor but he's in EVERYTHING right now. |

Careful review reveals that Speed drives two cars in the movie. At first, I only thought it was one, the Mach 6 (the one with the centered seat) but point of fact the Mach 5 (left oriented seat) is at least present in the desert race, probably earlier in the movie.  |
