Best giant monster movie ever.

And there are parts that since the characters aren't privvy to military intel you leave the theater with questions...Questions that could be answered in a sequel or something like that.

THE MOVIE IS OUT IF YOU READ BELOW THIS POINT IT WILL BE SPOILED...ONLY WARNING!

Unfortunately, against GAAZ, I didn't really like the movie. Too shakey for me...i felt like my head was lodged inside a box and shaken every 3 seconds.

There were some funny scenes, but aside from that, I was just "meh" about the movie, and well, I couldn't get into it. Filming all Handheld doesn't do it for me...handheld shooting is something that should be done for certain situations, and not for all situations. I have to say, it's something intriguing, but at the same time I feel like I'm lodged in a Blair Witch Project scenario.

Also, I didn't like the monster. I just don't like the anorexic Godzilla/kingkong combination of a bipedal/quadraped running alien thingy that spawns little scorpions. I was hoping to see something that was a bit fatter and a bit more humanoid. hell, A giant ape would have made me happy. Not a Godzilla/kingkong child.

But this is just opinion...i figured i'd be the guy who disagrees and everyone hates because of it Very Happy

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion Tobs, no matter how wrong it is :p jkjk

I'm with Gaaz, this was by far the most intense movie I have ever seen, and arguably the best monster movie ever made. While I understand people not liking the handheld shooting, I really think it made the movie. I enjoyed it and unless you are prone to motion sickness of any kind, I would seriously suggest going to see this in the theater. Its not the kind of movie you can get as much out of on your TV at home.

If you look at current monster trends IE Gears of War and Resistance you'd see that this monster mirrors them.

It was designed to look like a disfigured humanoid as that not only scares people but also freaks them out.

The small animals that drop off it have crushing jaws, lightning speed, wily hair, and a carapace shell. Easily a combination of many human fears.

Godzilla and King Kong were good in their hayday when people simply feared for the sake of what-if. Now the world knows there aren't any giant monkeys or lizards living on monster island. This monster came from the depths of the oceans...However the guy sitting next to me in the theater said in the last 5 seconds of the movie he saw a meteor fall into the ocean. Meaning this monster may be alien or the meteor woke it up.

I missed the meteor thing too, supposedly it happened during the ferris wheel scene as the camera was facing out over the water. But its all over the internet, along with the "Its still alive" whisper at the end of the credits. It was a great movie, but I sure hope they dont ruin it by making a sequel.

Or perhaps there are more?

Dude! What if it were a baby and the meteor was it's mama?!

I have not seen this yet but would love the chance. Looking forward to it.

Demon angel

I talked extensively with Ming on this. It seems a lot of people went into this movie expecting a monster movie. This is not a monster movie. This is not a happy ending movie, and this is not what we are at all used to dealing with.

This is Lovecraftian horror. This is an eldritch thing that has arrived and decided that we are not fit to live on this planet. There are several moments where it became obvious to me that the creature was sentient. I could list them but for spoiler purposes I won't.

I liked the movie but I am not going to see it again. I was psychologically scarred after seeing that film, and my sanity is lower now.

I was listening to my talk radio station this morning, and apparently Abrams said that IF there was a sequel, it would have the same timeline as the first, but it would be from the perspective of other people in a different part of the city, which sounds pretty cool it be honest.

Rev I'd like to read your take on the movie and the monster, there is a spoiler alert earlier in this thread so if they read it its their own fault.

I edited the name of the thread. Feel free to spoil and theorize and such.

I enjoyed the movie. The idea of a sequel from another vantage point sounds really cool. Maybe not a another standalone movie, but maybe a short film extra on DVD.

Alrighty...

As Rev mentioned before, we had a long discussion about the movie the day after, and he opened my eyes to some things that I missed while trying to hold down my dinner, because for some reason I started to get nauseous about a half hour in, which made it very difficult to actually concentrate on what was going on. As a result of that, I may actually go to see this again at some point (on an empty stomach). Also keep in mind that my experience may be a bit skewed as a result...

Regardless, I would be lying if I said I was not disappointed when I left the theater, which is very rare for me when it comes to movies. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what this movie is trying to do, and I appreciate movies like this, and I would defend this movie from asshat critics who went into this looking for far too much. I even thought that a lot of the movie was very well done. For example, the ending was great. Something like this SHOULD NOT have a happy ending, and it ended in a very logical fashion. But something about the movie just didn't do it for me. Honestly, I was the most disappointed with the monster. I went in expecting something really cool, and was really excited for most of the movie considering the good job they did keeping it pretty concealed most of the time. And then when they finally did show the monster, it was just sort of...boring. So it looked like a giant alien/humananoid/spider/thing from the Schism video...yawn. I would have preferred something like the alien from Alien...or THIS, which was rumored to be the monster.

But like I said, I think some of my judgment may have been skewed since I felt sick the whole time, so I think I'm going to give this another chance. I agree that you can't really get the full experience of a movie like this unless you see it in the theater, so that's what I think I'll do.

By the way...

I'll give you that this movie was intense. But I think it's a very far stretch to say that this was the best monster movie ever made.
