It is a great story. I've always wondered the fascination of doing fan-fiction. It seems that the story itself could work well as a stand-alone short story without needing to integrate it into another person's story environment.

Fan Fiction works well because you already have the characters created and can just put them in odd or different situations and therefore dont have to work quite as hard creating a fairly believeable character. the only challenge is to write to how they would react in certain situations.

Seems sort of strange to me. I suppose a lot of writers use concepts and ideas from other writers, but I've rarely read "fan-fiction" where you use characters from other stories.

Yeah, I guess it is sort of "cheating" not using original characters and all, but the only characters that I "borrowed" were the swordsman and his child. The woman and the husband are my original idea, as was the storyline.

I've read tons of fan fiction stories using just about any character ever written, but usually from Anime themes. I loved the story of Lone Wolf and Cub ever since I was 13 and I would like to think that I know how he would react to situations like this. Yet it is a great stand alone story if you have never read the graphic novel.

The swordsman and child seems generic enough that you could just edit them slightly so that it is more of a homage to the series than a fan-fiction. Then again I haven't done creative writing in a long time other than GMing table top games.

I guess you're right. It could be enough as a stand alone story as an homage and the real Lone Wolf would have seen through her scheme if I had used his total personality. It is an interesting way to combine creative writing without having to create, from scratch, believable enough characters.

I think it is one of my flaws as a writer. I don't think I have enough talent to create believable characters, so I borrow from others. Hopefully someday I will be able to write something with total originality.

Just go for it! I mean the only way you get good at character devlopment it to write and brainstorm original characters.
