Take a look at this, I'm not so sure about this argument but it caught my eye on yahoo, and well lets see what you have to think?
Topic will the internet come to a hault?
I don't really know what to think of this, considering that it's been growing and growing for several years, and with the never ending evolution of things. I doubt it will fall, Technology is like a plague it spreads and grows all over. So my answer to this is I doubt it will run out of room. |

AT&T is basically crying because they don't want to spend the needed money to upgrade aging infrastructure (19 Billion my ass! They must get their bean counters from the DEA.), and they want to try and use this as justification to kill network neutrality.
Trust me, AT&T is not going to run out of bandwith any time in the future, and the internet is not going to start grinding down. |

well the concerns over the bandwidth use comes up about as often as the issue of American owning the internet through a private regulatory corp. the best way to solve the bandwidth issues would be enforcing the decency laws that exist which would kill porn on the internet. yes technically porn is illegal on the internet in all forms but exists since there is major money to it.
the issues with AT&T though is just as gunslinger said, they hate spending money...if it goes to the customers convenience that is. they cut more corners than a nibbing press with half the user friendliness. anyways if they let it slow down, they lose business and someone else will crush them in the market. that is barring a gov't agent claiming the competitor is a monopoly or uses unfair trade practices to take command, giving time for AT&T to rebuild to crush after the investigation ends. |

One of the problems is the Telcos are starting to merge back together, and forming a monopoly again (I doubt anyone here is old enough to remember Ma Bell). You are down to 3 major Telcos: Qwest, Verizon, and AT&T. The government actually regulates them pretty tightly (although that is starting to slacken as of late), and ensures that they do not do anything overtly naughty. If the Telcos decide to try and leverage the government via the internet then most likely the government will take control of the Telcos in the US. |

well it has to to function but who knows if they will upgarde in a timely manner? they might be slow to do it and try to make the systems a more arcane art to protect themselves from firing....i think gunslinger has the best experience to expand upon this for us, having build a small sector of the net himself |
