(all of this has been c & p'd from my MYSpace blogs)

Code Atom has ended.

I am sad to say that I am probably the one most responsible too. I've always wanted to make something real and meaningful for people and when I got into music I felt that this was my chance, this was my venue. I absolutely refuse to be in a party-rock band. I don't want to be a Godsmack or a Sevendust or an Aerosmith putting out a list of albums that all sound alike. And I don't want to write a whole album of songs about some girl that treated me wrong or that could suck a good d**k. I'm not opposed to writing A song about those things GOD KNOWS I love some good [attention] and who hasn't been f'd over by a lover. But that's not and never will be my focus or primary concern. I love people. I love everything about people from the deepest compassion of the Auschwitz survivors to the dark and twisted side of killers. I love living and I want to express this crazy, complex ride through the divine experience of music. That is why I love Progressive Rock and it will always own my heart and, if I could, I would want to emulate the expressive ability of that kind of musical vein. Code Atom could mot seem to give me that.

In the last 2 years we (Pre-Aaron Hickman) wrote a total of TEN songs. 4 of those were trashed because, well... they sucked. We would try to write and come up with some re-hashed piece of crap that somebody in the band (mostly the person that wrote it) would think was brilliant. We stopped listening to each other and soon stopped listening to the very thing that gave us such a love for music altogether, other music. And even after all we had come through there was very little progress due to pigheadedness and finances. Aaron Hickman joined the band and within a month we had written 3 new songs but just as soon as he appeared, he left, ditched us for another band who, in my opinion, wasn't near as good as we were. But he wanted to play heavier stuff (at least that's what he told us) and I still wanted to play progressive rock.

But, Code Atom has one last holdout: Our new EP.

I'm still in the studio cutting vocals and weaving the story (it's a concept album) for our new EP, tentatively entitled 'A Modern Day Mythology' (we have other names in queue, though). It will be a 6-song EP not including segue, intro, and ambience tracks - no skits this time though. We have paid for the project in-full, have the artwork storyboarded, and are setting up with a non-profit organization for benefit proceeds - so it will be finished! I've always said to the guys in the band that all Code Atom needs is a professional sounding album and the doors will blow open for us and I still believe that with all my heart.

After the previous steps are completed, our only obstacle will be the money for the packaging because the design for the booklet will require at least 7 pages full color - or a bare minimum of 4, not including the page that is the front and back - and I've always wanted that little plastic strip on the top of the cds with the band's name and the cd's title in bold, block letters (that's when I'll know I've made it). But, and I never thought I'd be saying this, halleleujah for car accidents! The settlement from my recent accident should cover this expense and I would not hesitate to give that money to this project. So, it's actually a go! The whole thing! Now the only thing truly holding us back is the time it will take to make sure that this is our "professional product."

When the cd is released, we will send it to Southeastern Performer, Creative Loafing, Stomp & Stammer, Rolling Stone (who, thanks to my dad, we have a small 'in' with now) and anywhere else that will give us some press on it and cross our fingers and wait. If the EP is recieved well, we (Shane, Chris, myself and our "Mystery Guest") have decided to do a cd release show and pick up the momentum. So, yes, while Code Atom is technically over this is our 'Hope's Last Stand' and as such, our last hold-out.

We love you all so brilliantly and would never trade anything for any of our times together performing for you... even our so-called 'off nights.'

With much love,
REY

I dont know if you would be interested or not, but Bubba the Love Sponge on Sirius does an "Unsigned Band Review" once a month. THey will take 2 bands that have submitted their stuff, and critique it. If htey like it, they pass it along to anyone and everyone they know...if they dont, they smash the cd lol.

If you're interested, let me know, I can get you more information on it. They are on Howard 101 on Sirius, and have millions of listeners, so your music could get out there fairly quickly compared to local stations. Up to you.

I know one band that they liked, Egypt Central, has gotten regular play on Octane on Sirius, and they have had some decent luck getting thier music out there.

EGYPT CENTRAL?!!

We played a show with those guys. They were awful.

Yes, thank you. As soon as it's done I'll get back in touch with you.

Thanks Fifi. (Never thought you'd hear that again, huh?)

Zach told me about this some time ago. I kept my mouth shut until you said something.

Well Rey, you know we're always behind you. Let us know if and when you do this last stand show, and we'll get a group going to be there.

I hate to see C*A die. You guys hold a very special relevance to Krystal and I. Good luck and keep us up to date.

Sorry to hear bro. I know how you feel though. I just joined a band and we started playing the scene. We still need to figure out some kinks and such, but sometimes I think like they're not listening to what I have to say, which sucks because I have more experience playing gigs that the rest of them combined.

Seems like lately things are getting better, but we will see.

I hope everything works out for you, but keep us informed. You know you have a fan here in MN and a good friend too.
