Shocking news from my best friend...

Today was my day off and I get a call from my best friend/co-worker.

She tells me that she and the boys are on their way to the hospital to meet her husband who was being helicoptered in.

He's a plumber and was on a new job site doing something more construction oriented. I'm not clear what he was installing but he had his hand in the wrong place where if you have it there you can lose it...unfortunately, he nearly did.

All 4 fingers on his left (dominant) hand were ripped off, up to the tendons in his wrist and crushed. He's still in the midst of an 8-hour surgery to attempt to reattach and least repair what damage they can. Its not looking good.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers while they work through this.

i remember cutting off a piece of my thumb. A band-aid kept that intact so it could heal over, but it has been discolored since.

My blessings to him getting better fawks.

The only extra news I have is that the doctors were able to reattach his index finger, no others.

They've got a tough road ahead. I just hope that with time, they can at least see things on a more positive note they he's otherwise ok and he didn't sustain any other injuries.

In the big picture, they're just fingers...not his whole hand, and not his whole arm and he's healthy and fully intact otherwise. He's just going to have a long year with therapy for both his mind and body.

Wow I cant imagine that pain, I hope that he recovers swiftly and adapts easily.

Latest news is that he is showing some tentive progress and has movement in his finger and he can still move his thumb. He may be able to go home tomorrow.

On the bright side at least with two fingers he can still hold things and use a mouse or a controller and various other objects, unlike with just a thumb or no fingers at all. I hope the index finger does get to where it's bendable.

He comes home tomorrow and has a 90% chance of keeping his index finger...but he's looking at a minimum of a year of variious physical, occupational, and mental therapy.

They have to monitor his finger like crazy for color. It it goes either too pale or too dark, it has to come off.

I don't quite understand all the details but, they do plan to sue. He was less than 2 years away from making 50K as a base salary. They had him doing something outside his field and was basically untrained...and found out they deliberatley had the safety switched off to speed up the work...which would have prevented this from ever happening.
