WOW, me a juror

So here I am grabbing my mail getting excited because my birthday is coming up on the 28 of July and I'm of course looking for birthday cards ^^ but instead of an early card(grandparents tend to send em early lol) I get official summonings to jury duty! I'm nineteen for crying out loud, granted I'll be twenty by the time I go. My parents have never on jury duty, why me lol!

Well I already know my answer to the case, he's guilty! ha, ha just kidding.

I got a summons for JD a year ago...I went and sat in a room all day with a bunch of other people, 8-9 hrs, and never got called once to go back to see if they needed me, and thankfully they did get all that they needed though so I didnt have to go back for a second day of sitting around and waiting.

Lucky for me I am a game nerd so I played PSP all day and read a book lol.

Yeah, my experience with jury duty is pretty much the same as Sciler's. I just sat around all day and didn't end up getting called. I did, however, bitch and complain that I had to go...but that was because I was still in college and had to go during the summer, which sucks for you then.

But now that I'm older I don't mind getting it again because that means I get to get out of work.

I heard you get paid for doing this duty, is this true or just a myth? Yeah it really doesn't bother me that much that I have to go just the fact that.. Yeah its because i have to go lol, but If I get paid then its a different story.

Yes, sort of, by your job. I found this online. I believe it is the standard for all states, or at least an idea of what to expect.

Will I get paid for jury service?

--If you are employed full time, your employer must pay you your regular wages for the first five days of jury service.

--Full time employment is anything more than 30 hours per week.

--If you do not work full time, the state may pay you up to $50 per day for out-of-pocket expenses (with proper documentation), for the first five days of jury service. Out of pocket expenses include child care, parking, and mileage or other transportation costs. You must complete a Reimbursement Form and return it to the court.

--The state pays all jurors $50 per day starting with the sixth day of jury service and each subsequent day of jury service.

**NOTE**
this was from a Connecticut website, when I checked FL, a miami one came up which pays FAR less...but you can still get paid...so it seems to not only vary by state, but also possibly by county/city? The days for Miami that your job has to pay for you is 3 instead of 5, the pay if you are not full time is $15 instead of $50, and if you are on the jury for longer than 4 days, you get paid $30 a day instead of $50...so as you can see it varies drastically.

Just do a google search for your state, and then jury duty paid...that seemed to bring up the FAQ sheet the quickest for the states.

I kind of get excited about jury duty.

I was called, sat all day until 4pm and then my group got called.

It was for a mugging case by gunpoint.

My aunt was mugged and actually I was held up at gunpoint (along with Chibi Knight) so it pretty much ruled me out.

i got called up for jury duty. I took the day off from class, told them i was a student when i got there, and after two hours, they told me i was exempt for the time-being.

what was funny was that I was enjoying watching the Supreme Court Trial of Roger Clemens. go figure.
