"Let's put a smile on that face..."
This is how a sequel should be done. The Dark Knight fulfilled all of the expectations I had and exceeded them. I won't ramble too much except the say Ledger's portrayal of the Joker was very authentic. The Joker was like a force of nature, similar to the shark in Jaws, tearing his way through the movie as everyone else reacted.
I felt that this movie was much more intelligent than Batman Begins. That's not to say anything about Begins except that this one really explored the psychology of Vigilantism, Escalation, and Anarchy. Batman is very much pushed to his limits and the question of crossing the moral line comes up. There was still a smidge of cheese factor as is expected with summer blockbusters but I felt there was substantially less than Begins. No lines from Gordan like "I GOTTA GET ME ONE OF THOSE LAWL".
Aaron Eckhart does a spectacular job as Harvey Dent. In some ways he is almost the protagonist in this film, being pulled and affected in the middle by the extremes of Batman and The Joker. Yes, he has the coin. Yes, he flips it. Maggie G. does a nice job filling in the shoes of Katie Holmes, playing the role of Rachel Dawes.
I had a few issues here and there with Bale's delivery at times. His lips seemed to be permanently frozen in a sneer which came off as humorous to me. There were also a few lines here and there which bugged me but overall I hardly even noticed or remembered.
Overall I was very impressed by everyone's performances, the script, dialogue, the whole shebang. I would highly recommend seeing this film, especially in IMAX if possible!
Also: As if you didn't need any more incentive, there's a Watchmen and Terminator 4: Salvation trailer before the film |

I feel like Bale was almost a backdrop for this movie. Not that I'm complaining. But I think that the Joker stole the show, which is generally his style anyway ;D
And I liked Maggie G. a lot better than Katie Holmes.

Ledger's Joker was perfect. He was psychotic, and funny in a way that made you feel guilty for laughing. What makes it really perfect, though, is that it isn't based on any pre-existing version of the Joker ("The Killing Joke" is probably the closest). It was as if Ledger reinvented the character in a way that truly brought him to life. I hope that he is properly recognized for it in the Academy Awards. |

It was absolutely incredible. It is one of the first movies in a VERY long time where I forgot who the actors were and really felt I was watching everything unfold with these characters who were so vivid they HAD to be real.
Heath Ledger deserves an award for his performance. With all the avenues he could have dipped from it was amazing to see he made Joker his own.
Maggie IS Rachel Dawson. In fact, it'd behoove them to remake Begins with her in it rather than Katie Holmes. (he he he)
It was so well done. Certainly not any film that would disappoint.
Oh and the Watchmen trailer left my jaw unhinged. INCREDIBLE. |

Thankfully we got a 2 PM show for it today YAY! A lot of shows had sold out, or were selling out, so I consider mself lucky.
Normally I complain about the price of tickets, very few movies hold enough sway to cough up $9 a ticket, but this movie is definitely worth it.
I COMPLETELY enjoyed every moment of it, and I'm terribly sad that we lost such a talent, that is Heath.
"You either die a hero, or stay alive long enough to become the villain."
I guess Heath died at a young age it sucks, but he definitely has a legacy now with a slew of great movies before his end. I'm sad at what could have been, but I am glad to have seen what was.
"Want to see a magic trick? I can make this pencil disappear."
RIP Heath, you left us with many amazing moments, thank you for your time here. |

This was the first movie that I've seen in a while that I actually felt satisfied when it was over. It was so well done that I wasn't left wanting or needing more.
I think I'm the only person in the world that wasn't enthralled with Batman Begins, but now I feel obligated to go back and watch it again, although I suspect that The Dark Knight was just hands-down better in pretty much every way.

I was talking to the Rev about The Dark Knight sometime last week, before it came out, and he totally called this. But like you, I'm not complaining at all. The real stars of this movie were the Joker and Harvey Dent. |

I loooooove Begins. This one, though...well, I don't know. It's possibly because it was so hyped up, but it wasn't quite as good as I expected. It was still a fantastic movie, and we'll definitely be getting the DVD, but...when I got out of Speed Racer my blood was going, I was ecstatic, I was certain it was the best movie I'd seen all year. And TDK wasn't that way. It was good and I loved it, but not -that- good. But again, that's probably because of over-hype. I know I went into Speed Racer expecting shiny crap, and TDK expecting a good movie (though, I wasn't bouncing out of my chair the way I was for Prince Caspian...which I still loved despite high expectations) soo.....who knows?
But yes, very good. Heath is a doll and will be missed terribly, and this is at least a -very- good note to go out on. His Joker -was- fantastic. Not overly psycho "HEHEHE I'M CRAZY! CRAZY! DID I MENTION I'M CRAZY?!" but crazy in a slightly more subtle, creepier way.
And Commissioner Gordon is still my favourite character. <3 Along with Alfred, of course, because you have to love him. |
