New PS3 owner

So Im the owner of a PS3 now! I didnt expect to get into the next generation so soon (I'd intended to upgrade next year) but a co-worker wasnt gettign much milage out of his PS3 and let me borrow it. After watching some Blu-Ray movies on it my wife was totally sold and now I have a leet blu-ray/consol combo. My concern?

I've been out of the console scene for a while and I'd like to know what the highlights are. I'm not into traditional sports games, but SSX sort of pop style games migth appeal to me. Mostly I'm a tradtionalist; platform/action/rpg stuff, but I'm into whatever you, my trusty Otakites, recommend.

The two titles that are considered the best on PS3...

Uncharted and MGS4

Other great titles to check out are Resistance, Motorstorm, Ratchet and Clank.

Oh... and Rock Band 2 when it comes out next month. Smile

If you are online with it then check out the games on the PSN store. I personally have become hooked on The Last Guy. Also the store has tons of demos you can download and try out first (that's how I found The Last Guy). I have around 30 demos on my HD now.

Retail games:
Burnout (only $30 now and they have totally redone the game with downloads. It's like getting an entirely new game now)
Rockband (or wait for RB2 in a month or so)
Soul Calibur IV

my son recommends these:
Call of Duty 4
MGS4

and you can also grab these for $20 or less now
Virtua Fighter 5
NBA Street Homecourt

Also, PURE comes out next month (I think) and the demo is pretty good. It's an ATV racer.

I'm pretty much 99% into multiplayer so that's why I haven't listed platformers.

Again, check the demos on the store first and foremost. You may love our feedback but nothing beats trying a game for a few days first. I've spent $40+ and then found that after a week the game sucks too many times.

Burnout and RB1 or 2 are Must Have games tho. Really.
