Seems as though we had a little down time, fellow PO's. Hope it wasn't too bad for ya.
We were having a little trouble, but nothing irreversable, which as you can tell is now remedied. A little change in the access which quite cleverly looked worse than it really was. For everyone who thought they were banned, I am truly sorry, but I swear we were locked out as well. Instead of dwell on the problem I'm just going to say thank you for being so patient. Shino will be on later to go into it further. |

OK so I will give you guys the technical explanation as simple as possible...
There is something on unix/linux based machines called chmod. This function allows you to change access to a directory or file.
Well it seems that somehow, someone went into our directory and changed the access on it using chmod so that none of us could access it.
The only person on PO that has access to do this sort of thing is me. Doot and Chibi have access to FTP but you cannot chmod the root directory from ftp. So somehow it was changed. I figured this out about 9AM this morning and fixed it.
I have a support ticket into phpwebhosting about it. We are hoping that this problem will be figured out and resolved. I'm having doubts about security right now and unless we are reassured about the security of this server, a move may be necessary.
There is talk of switch to another server. More on this to come.
If this does happen, it will mean that PO will be down for about a day or so for the move. If it does happen, you can be assured it will be a move for the better.
