But the question is, Ming, why should something like that make people happy? Isn't that just a Capitalist/Materialistic philosophy? Should THINGS be able to make us happy? Inventions were first created to ease humankind's burden of necessity: Necessity for getting food in order to survive, for having stable shelter, for keeping healthy. But, as far as I can see, the result wasn't for us to value things, but to use the time that we are given BECAUSE of the things that ease necessity for greater purposes. Art, Music, Dance, Theater, Literature, Education, Science, Math, noble pursuits that we could be spending time on with our new-found ease, pursuits that could give us real satisfaction.
But instead we turn to THINGS.
