Hello there! Yep, I'm fine and all. Nothing much happened since end of school, except setting up some flight theory and times, trying to straighten up my golf game (I average 102!) and recovering from a minor car crash just today. x.X Nothing big; just rear-ended someone during rush hour and both of us got a dent on the bumpers.
NEWAYS!!!
I've set up a mini-RPG using Microsoft Access. The file allows one to imput character and weapon statistics, and use them to simulate a fight.
I've converted the file to fit PO and propose that we use it as a battle system for those who don't have the time to roleplay (people like me!) Thus, those who are constantly on the go will be able to challenge other PO characters, without having to type up actions and stuff. The system is independant of other PO features (i.e.: Becoming powerful on the battle system doesn't mean your actual PO will become powerful in the rest of the universe.) Take the system as designed for rollplayers, where being more powerful than someone else is the key. This is unlike the regular PO stuff we know, where we roleplay by describing our actions towards the opponent. As you'll notice, it's more competitive than the PO stuff we're used to.
THE SYSTEM
To manage the fights, I'll introduce Battle Masters. Those guys are trusted people chosen by me or the admins, who will have a copy of the battle simulator and hence calculate the battle's outcome. The job is fairly easy and only takes about five minutes or less per fight.
Each character who wants to take advantage of the battle system will have to distribute points among those stats:
-Strength (increases maximum damage and HP at the rate of 1 HP per point)
-Endurance (decreases global damage received and HP at the rate of 3 HP per point)
-Accuracy (increases minimum damage and chance of hitting)
-Agility (decreases global damage received and chance of blocking)
-Mind Power (increases intimidation factor; if your MP is higher than your opponent's MP, your opponent will suffer a stat decrease)
2500 points are available, but 500 are immediately assigned to Mind Power. So, that leaves you with 2000 points to distribute. Once done, calculate your HP. To do this, multiply your Endurance by 3, then add your Strength.
Finally, choose a weapon. It is best to choose whatever weapon your PO uses. For example, Doot will use a knife, I would use a sword, Shino would use a saber, Reverend would use a club, etc. If your character uses no particular weapon, pick up whatever the hell ya want! Once you have your weapon, give it a name and you're ready to go.
-Gun (20-230)
-Pistol (50-200)
-Club (60-190)
-Long Blade/Spear (75-175)
-Shotgun (90-160)
-Sword (100-150)
-Saber (105-145)
-Knife (110-140)
The numbers indicate minimum and maximum damages respectively. As you see, some of them are riskier than others. Play it safe or play it lucky! ^.^ Here is an example of my starting stats:
SHURIKANE
Strength: 600
Endurance: 450
Accuracy: 550
Agility: 375
Mind Power: 525
Weapon: Weapon Age True-Tempered "Orva" Sword (100-150)
HP: 1950
LEVELING UP
There are 100 levels you can obtain. You need to win 1 fight to go to level 1, then 2 fights to get to level 2, then 3 fights and so on and so forth. You would thus have to win 5050 fights to get to level 100! But anyways...
Each level gives you 100 bonus points on your stats and 10 bonus points on your weapon. Distribute freely! The only limitation concerning weapons is that minimum damage may NEVER exceed maximum damage. This is also taken into account during fights, so when you upgrade your Accuracy, give some points to your Strength to reduce the chance of being stuck.
So for example, I plan my next level this way: I'll give 40 to my Strength, 15 to my Endurance, 20 to my Accuracy, 25 to my Agility, nothing to my Mind power, and 10 to my Maximum Damage. There. That's my level up.
I WANNA FIGHT!!!
Got your stats and your weapon? Okie-dokie. First, get yourself an opponent at the Pub. Then, make a new thread in the VS forum (unless otherwise advised by the mods/admins) and type in who you want to challenge, ALONG WITH YOUR FULL STATS AND CHOSEN MODE OF FIGHTING. Your opponent then replies by accepting the challenge and posting his own stats, or he may decline the challenge, in which case the thread is locked or deleted. Due to calculating limitations, the only possible fights are one-on-one (sorry!!)
Once the battle is accepted, the first Battle Master to see it gets the stats and inputs them into his lil calculator. He'll set the outcome in either of these ways:
1) He posts the result of each fighting round.
2) If he's on a rush, he simply says who won along with the winner's remaining HP.
3) If he's on a mega rush, he simply says who won.
Winner, add a victory to your notepad. Loser, add a defeat. Feel free to display your scorecard in your sig or profile.
The battle system is done so that both fighters attack each other at the same time.
At times, where will be a draw. This happens if ten rounds go by without anyone scoring a hit, or if both opponent kill each other in the same round. If that happens, the BM declares the draw and asks if the fighters want a rematch. If yes, we restart the battle from the beginning. If either opponent says no, a draw is declared.
One rule: You may fight only one opponent at a time. Please wait until your fight is over to start another one.
MODES
You may fight according to one of those three modes, chosen by the challenger. At all times, the 10-round no-hit draw rule applies.
1) DEATHMATCH: Opponents go at it until one gets killed.
2) ENDURANCE: HP is disregarded. Opponents fight for 5, 10, 15, or 20 rounds (chosen by challenger.) At the end, the one who dishes out the most damage is the winner.
3) SURVIVAL: Opponents fight for 5 or 10 rounds. At the end of those, the one with the most HP is the winner. If both are alive, they go at it for another 5 or 10 rounds and again declare a winner. This goes on until one of them gets killed.
SOUNDS HUGE?
Not that much actually. Here's a recap of the steps to take to make yourself a character and challenge someone else:
1) Assign your statistic points.
2) Choose a weapon and give it your custom name.
3) Find someone to challenge and post up your formal challenge request on the VS forum, with your stats and the chosen mode.
4) Wait for your opponent to accept and the Battle Master to calculate the outcome of the fight.
5) Once the winner is declared, update your scorecard, and assign points if you have leveled up.
Bingo, that's all! Of course, I'll wait for admin approval before making this system permanent. If it's approved, admins please suggest me (by PM!) people who could make good Battle Masters. I'll do it on a we-call-you basis. DO NOT ASK ME OR THE ADMINS TO BECOME A BATTLE MASTER!!! If we need BMs, we'll contact the people we want. Of course, anyone who receives the proposal to become a BM is free to accept or decline the job. Good BMs should be people who come on a regular basis, even if they spend just a short time per session.
How does that sound? |

This here is a sample fight between me and any random guy, say John.
------------------------------
SHURIKANE (Lv.1)
Strength: 600
Endurance: 450
Accuracy: 550
Agility: 375
Mind Power: 525
Weapon: Weapon Age True-Tempered "Orva" Sword (100-150)
HP: 1950
JOHN (Lv.1)
Strength: 500
Endurance: 400
Accuracy: 600
Agility: 490
Mind Power: 510
Weapon: Harrison Classic Black Shotgun (90-160)
HP: 1700
------------------------------
The fight starts crappily: both Shuri and John miss each other.
BAM! Shurikane deals the first hit: 115 damage!
Shuri hits again for 133! John hits 100
Another double hit! 130 and 144!
Shuri hits and evades! 114!
John hasn't said his last word and dishes out 160 damage!
And again for 151 damage!
BAM! 112 and 109!
John is in a fury and deals 167 damage!
Again!! 117 damage!
Shuri strikes back: 125 damage!
And again! 145 damage!
Crap. Double miss. -.-;
Shuri hits 144!
Double hit: 109 and 96
John hits 127!
Another double miss. o.O
Shuri hits 110!
Double miss, AGAIN!
Double HIT! 147 and 95!
Shuri deals 125 damage!
Double miss... -.-;
John hits for 106 damage!
Double miss.
Shuri hits 129! John is in a critical condition!
Double hit! 129 and 143, but John has had it. He falls!!
Shurikane wins with 435 HP remaining!
BATTLE STATS
The fight lasted 26 rounds.
Shurikane landed 14 hits. John landed 12.
There were 5 double misses and 6 double hits.
Best hit for Shuri: 147 damage. Best hit for John: 167 damage.
Best combo: John, with 5 consecutive hits. Shuri had 4.
---------------------------------
Depending on available time, I could've just declared the winner. But since I have time on my hands ^.^ I decided to expand the fight a little. I rollplayed the whole way through but creative BMs (those who have WAYYYYYYYY too much time on their hands! ) can describe a full-fledged battle. |

My God, i didn't think there was anyone else out there who do such things with Access. Let me guess, you threw in some VB to help out a bit? |

Yep. Wasn't that tough really; just gotta know a bit of basic coding. But then, the system is very, very simple. |

How long did something like that take? Was it a lot of lines of code or very little in code and a lot in just functions? |
