from website...

Quote:

Because AWA 9 will be in two different facilities, one private and the other public, the policy is as stated: Prop, fake, replica weapons will be allowed ONLY in the hotel. NO WEAPONS, REPLICAS OR PROPS will be allowed in the convention centre with the expection that dealers will be able to sell prop or replica weapons and that the purchaser would have to immediately upon leaving the dealers room place said purchased weapon in either their car or hotel room.
Now I know what some of you are thinking here. This is the same as last years policy with the hotel side/convention side stuff. Maybe so. Yet the difference is that there is now a physical door that separates the hotel from the convention centre. No such visible dividing line was at the Sheration. Security will be monitoring that door from the hotel side to make sure that you do not take your props or weapons into the convention centre. We won't stop you if you are coming from the convention centre to the hotel.
Here is a short list of items you SHOULD NOT bring to the con. Period!

No whips
No loose chains
No handguns, rifles, shotguns nor prop replica versions

Although the Waverly and AWA have agreed to allow weapons and or props in the hotel we WILL remove any weapon and or persons from the premises for inapproiate behavior (such as swinging, threating or pointing weapons at other persons, etc.). This also includes situations where other persons miss handle your props, replica or real weapons. You are fully responsible for it at all times. Finally, this policy is also dependent on current conditions and the hotel has the right to change this policy to a "No Weapons" rule at anytime. We will let everyone know of the change in advance. So for right now there is only a "no weapons/no props" policy for the convention centre.
If you have any questions about the Weapons policy please visit our message boards or send us an email at address below.

Looks like I can bring them but inside the actual con center is out. Maybe I can strap them to my legs and hide them with my cape while in the con center. make cloth sheths that cover the entire thing. I have soem leftover elastic. I can add that to the costume I think.

Yes, the Photoshop method is definitely a plus, but it's rather time-consuimng to do. Hope you can get a team of people who can rotoscope.

Man that would really not be cool if you couldn't bring your sabers with you. Honostly, judging by how fragile your sabers are, I can't even think they'll consider them as weapons. Man, you'd do more damage punching someone with your gloves then by breaking your sabers on someone's head X-x. I'm sure they will understand that those are far from being 1) Potentially dangerous weapons 2) Mistaken for REAL weapons, like those all-too-realistic looking UZI or Handguns, or katana while we're at it.

It's not like the cops are gonna come to you and say ''You there! With the light sabers, drop your weapons! NOW! ... O, my bad, thought those were REAL light sabers''

As usual...I'm late, but better late than never I guess.

Anyhow...dude Shino! I think your a shoe-in to win that contest! Those sabers alone should nab you the win...provided they're allowed and all. And the armor looks awesome too! What I wanna know, though, is how you made that helmet? That thing looks REALLY cool, and I would love to know because it would be cool to make some helmets for costumes etc.

Considering you spent only around $100 for the sabers sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Last year my Halloween costume cost me near $100 to put together, and it was only me wearing all black with vampire fangs...nothing too fancy. Costume making is expensive.

Anyway, I wish I was going to AWA to meet all you guys this weekend, but unfortunately my schedule simply won't allow it. At some point I will drag myself, Rev, and Tobias to some major event.

Later!

~Ming

Ah taht is a popular question. So I will just answer it on here.

We the helmet is actuall ... well ... a helmet that has raise racing stripes that go from the front to the back.

The eyebrows are bondo carefully put on and sanded to the correct size and shape.

The mask is just a piece of plasted superglued to the inside of the hemlet. Then we used bondo to make the edges smooth and make it look like part of the helm.

The next Shino costume will not bee as rushed. That helmet will be perfect!

Well that's it. It was a lot of work. Lots of sanding, but all and all, not too difficult.

I've never been to AWA, but I can't see why they wouldn't let you bring your sabers for the contest. They might have a problem with you wandering around the con, but according to the AWA site, the costume contest sounds like a separate event unto itself. All they'd have to do is just check everyone's weapons to be sure they were replicas before the contest. Also, according to the site, the contest consists of a private closed judging session followed by a runway style public presentation. At the very least, I would think the weapons would be allowed during the private judging. Does anyone who has been to AWA before know if weapons were shown during previous costume contests?

Gahhh! I'm sooo envious of your creativity! I would dearly love to see the wiring and innards of the 'sabers (if possible without ruining them) ! I can't wait to see the finished product! Kudos and applause to you!

Let's see this finished product, Shino! Get in with the sabers and show 'em all how it's done!

Pictures, man, pictures... (and the movie of the destruction of the light sabers)
