Subjobs for white mage are pretty limited. The point of white mage is to heal efficiantly, so I'd say there's probably only three really good choices:

Black Mage - Sub this if you're interested in just simply boosting your INT and MP. Black Mages get more MP than White by default, due to the cost of their spells, so if you sub it you'll adopt some of that nice goodness. And trust me, when yer a mage, MP is THE number one thing to worry about. Keep yer MP managed, and the party as a whole will be a lot more smooth. If you plan on trying to Magic Burst as well as healing, Black mage is also the only subjob that'll let you do that.

Summoner - A reletively new addition to the job list, but also a very valid subjob. Summoners are the new MP king/queens because their "spells" require even more MP. Summons cost a certain ammount to bring out, and then while they're out MP will constantly drain till they're put away or it runs out. Also a very nice passive ability to have is at, um, 20-ish I think summoners get a gradual MP regen of sorts, the same was White mages get HP regen at 20-ish as well. This is certainly a very helpful thing. However if you're going to raise Summoner, keep in mind that you NEED SUMMONS. You can only get the high-end summons by fighting them in a boss battle, which requires a party of atleast 55-60 leveled folks, AND you have to open the quests by gaining lots of fame around the world. Summoner is probably one of the most exclusive and difficult jobs to raise, but the absolute most rewarding.

Red mage - This is probably the weakest subjob for White mages, because they're already a mixture of things that White mages already have. However, Red mages are the rulers of defeebleing (sp?) magic. That is, spells like blind or poison or bio or paralyze. So if you want your spells like paralyze (which is a staple to start off all battles with), to stick, then perhaps try out Red mage. It's not the most suggested of subjobs though.

As far as Bard is concerned, it's not a subjob-type job really. The thing is most bards rely on instruments to boost the effects of their songs, constantly switching them during battle. However if you sub Bard, you can't use any instruments, therefor rendering it a tad useless.

Question for Mr Cobbi!

Is red mage a good sub for black? Someone told me that having red Mage as your sub automatically improves the damage of black mage spells. Plus having debuffs would be nice ...

Red mage can be a decent sub for Black mage if what you're after is defeebling magic. If the White mage needs help healing, yer a little worse off though. It's all preference at that point.

And for Warrior, Red mage can work just fine. You won't get any melee-related bonuses, but you'll atleast be able to cure people to gain hate. You just won't have much MP, and don't expect to rest between battles.. You need TP for skillchains <^ ->

Monks WOULD rule if it wasn't for the fact that Hand to hand is REALLY slow and Staff fighting is even slower. But I'm not Cobbi so....*scuttles*
