I dont wanna cause a commotion but I know this will anyway, so just to see it Ill say it...
Valentine's day sucks !!! Its the most hypocritical day Ive ever seen. When hypocrites back in high school who never spoke to ya just busted out with a 10¢ card just to let people know they can afford to care what other people think and to keep their consious clean, they give out cards. Which I guess it will be nice to give a gift to some people I know... or used to know since they stopped talking for no apparent reason. lol Like I care... So for those who fit the shoe, this is just for you... @-}-- @-}-- @-}--
())_Magic_Pen_))>
Id give chocolates too, but Im broke... so I cant afford them...
The whole concept of this holiday was invented by Hallmark and Ferrero to sell cards and chocolate.
(I think I said the same thing last year, but Im not sure)
PS I wish all the people I want to read this would... I think Im gonna have to start making cards with this link and/or message and pass it around.
We dont need holidays to tell the people we care how much you love and care for them... to wait for one day is just being hypocritical, just like thanksgiving. If there is a God, then why wait for a specific day to say thank you ?! With all "He" has done for humanity you should be sacrificing your children and kissing "His" ass for a whole 100K years just to tell him how grateful you are, not wait for one day each year and eat turkey on his name and say thank you God for this food.
Humanity... heh... |

From the History Channel
"So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.
According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France. "
So yeah it may be based on legend but it does give an excuse to be pampered a little. Normally I would agree with the Hallmark comment but then again sometimes it doesn't take anything purchased to appreciate the day. |
