I've started climbing last saturday and I think I fell in love with that sport! I'll be certified as a beginner climber next saturday (that will allow me to climb basic walls inside) but then I'll take advanced classes and all the other 4 classes so by this summer I'll be able to go climb outside!

Ultimatly ... I would want to go climb in Taiwan at Lung Tung (Dragon Cave)! That place really seems to be every climbers' heaven @_@

Must ... go ... climbing ... NOW!

hmm, and it isn't as much of a work out as I thought it would be (well, to just climb on normal walls) so I guess I'll get myself 20 lbs of weights that I'll be wearing at the wrists (2.5 each), ankles(2.5 each), and around the waist (10).

Sounds cool, BWS-1! The only climbing I've done so far is on an inflatable wall (almost 3 years ago) but I've always wanted to do more. Anyway -- stay safe and have fun!

Climbing's a lot of fun. As for it not being a workout, wait until you get to some of the more advanced walls and the stuff outside. It'll definitely be workign out, then.

Ack ... no need for the weights, I'm DEAD!

I've spent the day climbing (from 10 am to 5 pm) and ALL of my muscles are so sore I swear I aged of like, 30 years in one day, the pain ... o but still, I learnt a lot from that day:

1 ) Even without weights, climbing is demending, therfor it should require a GOOD warm-up ( at least 15 minutes, not just 5 or ... 2 to 3 minutes <_< )

2 ) Black winter boots should NOT be considered as climbing equipment: they have little to no grip at all compared to the appropriate shoes and they force you to use nothing but your fingers and arms to stay on the wall

3 ) Eating at 7:30 am ... then do nothing but drink water all day will help you be able to do much climbing with little dehydratation BUT ... at 5:30 pm you will be almost ready to KILL for FOOD! Ckajwbgkqej

4 ) Without lil white pouder stuff thingy that keeps your hands dry ... you will have a FREAKIN hard time trying to get a grip at the wall X-x

5 ) When you feel pain in your fingers: you're hands of half dead

6 ) When you can't feel your fingers anymore: you're hands are far from dead! So even if you don't feel them grip, don't lose your grip!

7 ) When you don't feel your fingers and you can't grip anymore/move your fingers: your hands are DEAD! STOP CLIMBING! (well, just take a break)

8 ) Trying to grip the wall as you fall is a BAD idea: walls are rough and rip the skin/nails off if you try to slow your fall.

9 ) Climbing shoes might help you staying strechted out in the most ackward positions while still being stuck on the wall but they will NOT give you the ability to strectch/remain stretch in such position if you weren't capable of doing it in the first place!

10 ) You just CAN'T climb upside down if you don't have any place to put your feet, it's just way too demanding for the arms and fingers alone X-x

11 ) Biting your nails as you analize the wall is an other BAD idea, especially since you always have the hands/fingers/nails full of chalk (so it is why I decided to stop biting my nails!)

12 ) Feeling the urge to bit your nails as you are ON the wall and analizing a path to keep going is probably the WORST idea out there ... well ... it's not really an idea, but it's really annoying, and it becomes a "the worst idea" as you try to bit a lil peice of nail <_<

13 ) Trying to climb down from the top of the climbing block inthe middle of the room isn't much of a bad idea, in fact, it's a hell of a challenge. But I have been told by a guy working there that I wasn't allowed to do that so... yeah

14 ) The closer you are to the wall, the better, the further away you are ... the more you will be drained and your muscles will hurt a lot.

15 ) Jumping or doing "Chi" moves are good; only when you know you will land somewhere on the wall, and not somewhere on the floor...

16 ) Climbing for 7 hours shouldn't be called a work-out, or a drill ... it's SELF-DESTRUCTION. I will never EVER do that again, dispite the fact that I like it so much that I could feel like spending the day there ._.

17 ) Climbing is expencive (not as much as diving but still gee) So if I want to be able to climb twice a week, I have to get myself the GOOD shoes (95$ good for 2 years) the monthly pass (60$ per month) and the enough bus tickets for the transportation (44$ per month)... O and the membership card (25$ per year) and extra equipment expences (20$ per month). In order to not go red financially (and even endup making lil more money!) I must cut the sushi *sob sob

18 ) Climbing downward like Spider-Man (head down ass up :p) is NOT as easy as it looks in the movie -_-

19 ) As much as I would want to go climb 4 times a week, I just can't so, the final lesson I've learnt that day is: I NEED A NEW JOB!! X_X

B, what happen to your climbing training?

I went to the mall on Saturday morning and they have this climbing club membership promotion and they also have climbing wall there for customers to try out so I give it a try.. It was really fun, not a tall wall tho, just about 15 feet but I broke my nails hehehehe and my body is aching specially hand and thigh due to lack of warming up...

Pushed back untill I get an other job X_x I'm all excited about my new job, but it is still only in May that I will have it, therefor I don't want to spend too much money in the month of April.

I might end up sticking with the climbing I do without cables, on a big block in the middle of the gym, I enjoy that a lot, and you don't need anybody to hold anything, since you have no cables! I'll take advance course tho, I need a few more techniques.

YES! OMG. Rockwall climbing is sooo much fun. I discovered it at Ren. Fest several years ago, and now have to do it at least once every year. I'm pretty good at it, too! ..well, on a beginner level. XD Cat

I have not had much experience with climbing (other than trees, large rocks, and whatever else I could find on my own...so not rock wall climbing), but I love the rock wall machine we have have in the gym. I'm short, so not much reach, but I have strong fingers and my slight weight is to my advantage.
