After never responding in this thread, I totally understand how Kai feels and everyone else.

Most of my wardrobe consists of hot topic clothing. I would say about 75%. I have a mix match variety. So what if I wear black a lot, wear eye liner, black nail polish, and on the occasion black lipstick. It all matters to what I like and I feel comfortable in.

Yes, ON a rare occasion I wear something preppy, but not super slut prep-o. I tend to wear stuff that I:
1. Feel comofrtable in
2. Something that might look different
3. Just want to wear.

I like to mix and match and sometimes I don't even match! Everyone claims I am a goth. I've kind of slid off the punk side, but my personality has stayed there. I am a spitfire, a young person just full of energy, who too goes through those crappy emotions and feels like it, but I am never a poser. You are only a poser if you are saying that you are something you are not.

Such as Avril. She is not punk. She isn't even close to being punk. What kind of punk has PERFECTLY straight, and brushed hair and non-torn or holey clothing. Come on...

All I am saying is... Yes, there are posers, haters, and obssess'ees, but you'll have to live. I don't care what people say. High school is the most toughtest time in your life, people, school, hormones. It just really screws you up, but live you best, and don't care what others think. Besides.. they are just jealous. Everyone else are those people who are too scared to wear that type of clothing or such.

I love making clothes, I love wearing clothes, and I love fashion. Gothic and punk is kind of unique, only because not a lot of people are willing to wear it, althought you can see a hint of the fashion flow into the manstream, such as a couple of bondage straps onto a pair of jeans. I bet most people don't even know what they are for.

Just be yourself. It's the greatest feeling in the world.

Right on girly! That's what I love about you. And that is the kick ass thing about Dad too! He has never once raised us to be someone we aren't. He has let us both follow whatever creative tendancies we may have. Mine was through art and acting and writing. Yours is through art and fashion and cooking. We were "cursed" with these genes. I have to say I am a fan of your more punkier side but even when you dress differently you still do have the fire in you, you hot tempered Aries you. Wink

It's not so much to generalize folks by the items they wear but by the personality they portray. You could generalize and say that anyone who has ever felt sorry for themself is a "Goth". What most people don't realize until they have a couple more years under their belts is that life is always going to be filled with crap. It will hit you when you least expect it. It will constantly try to knock you down. What you may be going through can be only an iota of someone elses strife. But you have to rise above it. You have to continue living. And to wander around saying life is bleak and life means nothing is so overbearingly BORING because there is a billion things out there that make life the single most enchanting and fascinating creations out there.

Don't let these people bother you. Toss on your suit of Teflon and let things slide right off of you. You'll feel much better for not letting other people dictate your emotions.

Especially if you go off to college somewhere like I do, where the students are numerous and you can find groups to match every interest you think you have or ever had. Don't change yourself for someone else, because out here, you're not weird or a standout, you're just another eccentric.

I was EXTREMELY mature in HS...In that I didn't give two rats asses what people did or thought about me. I sat in my little corner with my 2 friends and 12 acquaintances making fun of the gay guy who told me to take off my hat this one time when I was in a building and who then proceeded to tell a teacher I was wearing a hat inside said building.

I wore crappy t-shirts and pants or shorts and sandals sometimes military issued boots. Basically I woke up in the morning and put on clean clothes. I wasn’t in school to make friends..I was in school to get out of school. If some guppies slapped themselves onto my cruising form then all the better.

Wow, that was a nice long read. Anyways, you guys have mostly stuck to the fashion and music area of being yourself, but I'm here to talk about the racial part. Yes, the racial part. I am Puerto Rican. About 80 - 85% of all my friends are white and because of this all of my non-white friends call me white. At first, I was offended, but I took a good look around and saw what these people were like. The ones doing the name calling were the exact people I really disliked and didn't want to be like. These were the people that dressed liked the artist or band of the week simlply because they were number one on TRL. Anyways, I was truly hurt by these comments considering I do have pride in where I came from and my background. Not to mention my "friends" gave me nicknames such as Fez and Whitey since I was the only hispanic in our little group. But after a while, I had had enough and told them how I felt. Sure enough, they stopped. They still call me Fez though, but that's mostly cause I do a pretty good impression. The point is, we also get profiled by race in a lot of places. If you're white and you listen to rap, people automatically call you a wigger. Unfortunately, we've come to a point where almost every single thing we do affects other people's opinions of us negatively. So, how do we overcome this? That's the real question. But until then, just ignore the ignorant mass and be who you are and more importantly who you want to be.

go above it all Kai, hehe. Here's my bit of wisdom: It's a circle. If you take non-conformists and conformists and you look at the extreme sides, they're both doing the exact same thing, but for a different reason. Here's what I mean: Non-conformists are all about "Fighting the system" and spreading the word about how not to fall under the rule of conformity. However, look how strict the "rules" are for being a non-conformist. It forces you to change your beliefs to theirs to have that title. It is asking you to CONFORM to their way of life. It's a circle, and the best place to be is in the middle. Don't support either side, and you're a true non-conformist.
As for sellouts, I suggest the song "Hooker with a Penis" by TOOL.
