Why they call them the classics

I just spent about three hours of my life watching Kurosawa's classic japanese samurai masterpeice, "The Seven Samurai". My attention was origianlly due the game of the same name on PS2, which received lukewarm reviews, but I had read was based on this older classic. No sooner have I finished it that to come here and suggest you set aside your next movie night to this film.

Kurosawa, apparently a master director of his time, winds together the story of, naturally, seven samurai, who all agree to defend a village from bandits for their own reasons. Not only is each plot nicly developed, executed, and cohesive to the over all plot, but Kurosawa's dynamic use of subtle imagery gives the whole damn piece a look how nice poetry sounds. Imagine a man firing a bow, zen style, whom the shot is centered, to his other side are meen retreating as he pull the bow. You can see the inertia of the men move with the man's pull, from retreat, to stand, and charging as he lets go. The image is only a few seconds long, not obvious by any means, and not any special guy's death, just some extra bandit - but its little thigns like this that make Kurosawa's vision so beutiful.

Hmmm...We'll see. Saving my money for Day After Tomorrow, as you know, but after that...who knows?
