Ok, after becoming extremely curious, and after being hassled by my friend about how great the game is, i decided to go out and get the game. And i have to say, i am impressed with it. It is truely unique.
The basis of the game: You are a "commande." A commander controls a Custom Robo. A custom robo is basically your residual self image...you go into a holloseeum...a residual battleground. You get shot into an area as a cube, then you transform, and fight it out. The types of weapons that you fight with are Guns, bombs, and pods. The guns and bombs are situated in the right and left hands respectively. They delay your character when you use them. The pods, on the other hand, fire out and leave you completely mobile to do another action.
My synopsis on the game so far: Its truely interesting. If it reminded me of any type of game(s), it would be like a combination of two of the best mech games ive played before: Virtual On and Armored Core. The Armored Core comes from the design and the customization of the Robos, while the Virtual On reminders come from the gameplay in-battle, in which you have 3 basic attacks which you use in conjuntion with basic evasion to beat the enemy. So all in all...i like the game, though it starts off a little awkward. Eventually, you do get the controls, and then you can start beating up some robo-butt!
That is all

I've got it too. The game's a lot of fun. At first, the battles seemed rather bland, but the fact that they keep awarding me parts after every fight keeps things interesting. Not to mention I particularly like the art style of the game. One thing I would have liked to see those is a bit more variation in the battle arenas. Grappling moves and/or short range weapons (read.. swords) would have been fun too. Overall, good, not perfect, but still a lot of fun. I think multiplayer's going to be a blast though. Now if I could just find someone to murder. Mwahahaa! |

I played it for a little while at Walmart and I got pretty much the same impression as Tobs, its AC + Virtual On, in a cooky fun way. It reminds me a lot of a game on playstation one whose name escapes me, but it was the same concept of scrappign together a bot and fighting then against other bots for thier parts. I bet Id like the game, but the areas are so small from what I saw, I dunno if Id buy it. Ill wait to hear you opinions after a ffew monthes. |

Dai, you're probably thinking Robo Pit on PS1. I have both US and Japanese versions on the Saturn (The PS1 version made it a bit too easy to use the double attack moves). That game had me hooked forever. Especially liked the big fist. Ha HA.
I'll probably be picking up Custom today. I would have gone already but it's been like six hours (seriously) since I started Transformers and I just can't stop. Mecha is here to stay! |

I like it so far. I haven't gotten to play too much into it yet, but there is alot of strategy to fights. I think you can get bigger arenas too. A 4 person melee would not be so hot on that first stage. |

Rented this yesterday and I have to say I really couldnt stand it. The dialogue was a little corney (which I can take) and ut just didnt appeal to me. The controls seemed very sluggish and the gameplay pretty quick and hectic and very confusing. The customization is pretty neat though, and Im sure the game has its own points, but I just couldnt get into it at all. Rent first. |

I'll add to that a bit
I played it at a friend's house and tho I still want it, it dropped down my list. It has some cool points but
Yes, the dialogue is beyond childish
Yes, the fighting has absolutely no strategy to it whatsoever, not even by accident
When fighting you simply mash buttons and hope you chose more autotargetting weapons than your foe. Another feature that killed me was the "multiplay". You can get three friends to play with you but you can't import save files at all (or at least we didn't see a way how). When you win battles you get a random part that your foe used so if you won something that your friend didn't then you can't even recreate the design you may love to use. You're pretty much at the mercy of his save file. Also, you can't even fight team against the CPU until after you finish the game!
This game has a lot of room to be improved. I just can't believe it's like the 6th in the series. I'll still want to get it but I'll wait til it hits $20-25. |

Yea...the game kind of gets realy easy at the end...now that ive pretty much completed it completely. When you complete the New Journey game, you get The Grand Battles, where you do tournament play, but its still not all that interesting. The most strategic part of it would probably be the fact that in certain battle tournies, after each fight, you cant use the parts that you used in the last fight. This really adds some more difficulty to the game, as far as needing to use more weapons that you may not be used to using. The only thing though is that you just use a lightning sky model (a model that can fly instead of dashing) and any weapon, and you can pretty much just nuke everyone. End of story.
But it does (as everyone else has said) have its points.

My thoughts exactly. I played the demo at Gamestop and was extremely dissapointed by the fighting. |
