Anime Idol AMV

For reasons completely not beyond my control, I failed to finish this one and submit it for ACen's AMV contest. Due to my procrastination, I put it off, put it off... up until the deadline. Probably a good thing I didn't submit it as I was really embarassed of a few parts. Namely, the "Tuesday Night..." sequence. That was literally last minute as I found out I couldn't have credits in the video at all due to the contest rules. Completely shot my idea for it.

There's also some timing issues with a couple of the transition sequences. Easily fixable tho. I also want to fix the very first scene with the TV screen. There's actually supposed to be scanlines and a glow on that screen, but when I export the vid... it doesn't show. Big disappointment for me.

It's still not "finished" as I'm waiting to see what kind of footage I'll have with the finale this week. Got a couple good ideas to add to it as well. Nabeshin does Justin Guarini... or is it the other way around? Ah well... hope I have the right footage for that one.

Anyway... I'm a glutton for feedback. I like to see what other otaku think of it so far and if they have any ideas on what would be funny. I'm all about the people. You know me... But seriously, it's good to hear that an idea is stupid before I submit it for the AMV community. (This is only my second real AMV and they tend to rip apart n00bs over there)

(p.s. to the peeps that have seen this before, this new encode has the fixed audio... and... oddly... looks a little bit better)

Looking good there Una. Is there a time that you must keep for the video? (As in do you have to stay within a certain time frame? Or stretch it to fit?) Nabeshin as Justin would be hellaciously funny.

As for the Tuesday night sequence, which I know you already have issues with, I would just suggest to speed it up a little. That's all really. ^_^

ROFL! I really have to applaud the amount of work youve put into that, I really thought the timing was excellent except for the inevitable dub overs that are hard to sync - which was also bang up. The "Anime Idol" symbol over Naru's mouth when she cusses is too much too (my black ass Laugh

).

But as for feedback:

During the opening narreration, it would be cool if the titles on the screen moved or were a little more animated rather than just fading in and out. I coudl do with the voice being a little more 'Mr Movie Phone' too, but thats not something I think can be altered with out getting someone else to do the voice over.

The sequence with May was pretty short, much shorter than the other two, any way to lengthen that up a couple of seconds. I know the Vash one was short, but it felt right.

It would be cute to have a "commercial break" thing from the TV at the end, so that we have sort of a seguay into the end instead of just a fade out.

I liked it and I have no problems with it..I especially liked the Goddess hotline..That was beautiful.

Finally! Someone caught the Goddess Helpline gag. That was actually my wife's idea. That sequence was a last minute creation which turned out to be my favorite of the bunch.

You see, this was originally going to be a submission for the "Commercial Theme" for ACen's AMV contest, but it got away from me. It looks more like a segment from the show now... which I like better anyway.

Running time is all open now. No particular format to follow anymore as it's not getting submitted anywhere. But just in case, I want to keep it under 3 minutes... about the length of a normal song.

The entire Tuesday segment is getting ripped out. In it's place, I have clean video of the opening credit sequence of the show. I'll make it look just like that, but with studio and song, artist, information instead of producer, etc. It's what I wanted to do all along, so I'm happy I can include it now.

Minmei was always in the original gameplan, but was cut short to keep it at the 1:30. I can't really extend the ending as I stretched it as far as I could. Simon's video cuts out quick (I even added some still frames just to compensate for the fadeout) and Randy's laugh was repeated. But I agree, it's short. There was more of her singing, but it just didn't fit without a gag. then again... she's a gag all in herself. There's more that I can do to it. Gonna be a chore, but I'll make it work.

I'm recruiting my buddy (who's a DJ) to do the announcer voice overs. He's been begging to get in on it, actually.

dude una that's freakin awesome!! i checked it out as soon as i got back from acen and me and friz have talked about it many times since. this thing has so much potential to be even more hilarious then it already is.. i also loved the goddess hotline part! ^^

my only crit is not fading randy out so fast after his comment on voiceovers for cartoons (he seems cut off) and the same crit for the comments on minmei (just seem fade in a rushed and cut off fashion) but that may be a footage problem or something. at the end if you where going to keep the laughing as it fades i would suggest maybe throwing up the anime idol logo or whatever it is they show with the time its on.. i dunno it just kinda felt like the laugh lasted longer than the video or something. but other than that your synching and everything is wonderful! love the blue effects you did too. its really put together nicely i applaud you!

are you going to keep it as an audition episode? or are you planning on expanding it out to the actual show type thing? there are so many gags to do with this you are brilliant.. but you know that already. it would be great if you could through seacrest in there too lol.. man.

it would also be funny to use anime characters for simon, paula and randy but that would take a lot of editing and stuff to get them to fit in there together. i'm just curious of who simon would be. there are tons of girls paula could be (just find a chick sitting at a table and there ya go), randy is a little harder though i thought it would be funny to have him be mr. popo from dbz lol.. but i dunno.. i'm not the mastermind of comedy here. i just enjoy funny, witty stuff and you, sir, have shown your skilz in that right here.

The original plan was to have anime judges. In fact, in the 'recap' episode of Excel Saga theres a scene with a bunch of the characters behind desks. That would've worked out... but only for one gag. Lack of consistant footage kept me from doing it.

I agree about the quick cuts on Randy and Simon. The video just cuts out early. Crying or Very sad

I should really redo the audio for Randy's cartoon comment. Just shorten it by a hair. He actually says "or something" at the end, but the audio from the next clip comes in quick and really cuts off his "something". I don't think I shortened it enough... Normally, I woulda scrapped a clip like that, but the "voice-over" comment was just too funny.

Don't know if I'm going to follow any particular format (audition or otherwise) because it's such a short vid. Probably leave it as a quick montage of some of the contestants. It's all open.

I'm going to start working on it again this week now that my schedule opened up a little bit. Love all the comments, guys. It's motivational fuel!
