ok, it's been a months since anyone posted in this thread, but we can't decide on the best video game ever with only 13 votes.
have not fear, sperrit - i just cast the first vote for FFX. i think the newer games on the list were sort of slighted in general because less people have played/beaten them, but i wasn't about to stand around and let FFX wallow in zero-vote-land.
i know and love many of the nominated games, but FFX is one of two games that has totally defined video gaming for me. the first was FFIV (FFII US) for SNES, which was one of the first video games i ever played and the very first RPG. obviously i'm biased towards it, but even as objective as i can be i still thought it was the best game in the FF series.
that is, until X came out. X had everything: great characters, great plot, unbelievably great battle system, great music, great graphics, great greatness...not only everything you could possibly ask for in a RPG, but everything i could ask for in ANY video game! FFIV is still the one video game closest to my heart, but X definitely has taken its place as the #1 best video game i have ever played (yes, E-VAR).
so that's where my vote goes, and i'm ashamed that more people don't recognize X's greatness - especially with other, inferior RPGs making the final cut!
oh, and i would have liked to see Asterax for Intellivision get nominated. that was the very first video game of my life, and i wasted many long afternoons during elementary school blowing up 4-bit (or whatever pitiful number of bits intellivision had) chunks of rock. ah, the memories...i still would have voted for FFX, though.

Tetris is old school man. It deserves it, even though it doesn't have the best graphics or anything like that. It's been a great game from the beginning and has kept on being a great game, despite the competition. That says a lot.
