A rant of utmost importance

This has certainly turned out to be an interesting thread, I can say that much.
As far as being a 'conformist' or a 'sell-out' I'd have to agree with Terin. Being 'Non-Conformist' is really just conforming to a different set of rules, especially if you're talking about the Young American Non-Conformist, who rebels simply for rebelling's sake. That notion in and of itself is an enigma to me, but it happens all the time. I recently watched The School of Rock and when he got to telling kids that Rock was about sticking it to the man it really made me start to think. Yes, sticking it to the man is all well and good... but what purpose does it serve? What do you gain from sticking it to the man just for the sake of the joy of flipping him the bird? Rebellion should have a purpose, a cause, otherwise you're perpetrating the very crime that you wish to punish others for: putting on an act for the sake of appearances, or, being a poser. In that sense, most of what is 'Rock' or 'Punk' or 'Metal' etc. is really just a different kind of posing and, in many ways, even worse than other kinds of posing because it's hypocritical.
Now, about music in general: I'm not sure where all this "They're a poser" "He's a poser" "She's a poser" crap came from when it came to critising music (probably from people wanting to be the OG Rebels and not wanting someone else to claim the same thing) but it's all bullshit. All of it. When music stops being about good tunes and starts being about image and attitude and who's more 'Non-Conformist' then it all becomes one thing, no matter if it's Punk, Metal, or Rock: it's just Pop Culture, selling an image to the masses (be they Preppy masses or Punk masses) rather than good tunes. My advice is this: listen to all music, from Pop to Punk to Jazz to Rap, forget about the images they're trying to sell and take the good tunes and leave the bad. Music doesn't define a person, a person defines their music.

Everyone 'sells out'. It's part of society. I know a lot of good bands that haven't sold out aka making it big. They do it cause they love to rock. But if you love to rock hard enough you get big. Look at Green Day. When they finally went home after a tour they stopped in at a dive they used to play and in the bathroom written on a stall was 'Billy Joel is a sell out'. All he did was play music. He ate mud at Woodstock that year. A sell out doesn't eat mud.

Everyone is a 'conformist'. Your an individual, just like everyone else. The real 'free thinker' is more rare than alexandrite. There just aren't that many of them. They would be the Einstiends and Eddisons. Am I an Eddison, nope. Do I think differant than 'most' of my friends...yes...and no. Just depends on the topic. That's really what it is all about. The diversity of ideas being blended into a single force. That's why a 4 string quartet covering Incubus is just as hard core as Incubus itself. that's my 2 cents.

Wahoo! I got threatened yersterday.. just for what I was wearing!

So what if I was wearing black and white stockings with my white japanese rising sun platforms and my pink leg warms, with a red plaid skirt with my shorts under them and a pink hello kitty shirt with a super girl tank top over it with red arm warmers with blue ones over it and my cat collar witha red bell on it?!

I didn't care. They asked, "What the hell you wearin'?" and I smiled, turned and told them, "Clothes." and of course no answer would be correct. So I got threats of beating me up and my friends were takin care of tat and I tld them to jsut leave them alone, because I said they are just jealous. And it was just funny because through out the day there were people asking what I was weaing, and I just said, "Clothes!" wahoo!

I just killed them with kindness I didn't really care what they said. Calling me some weird punk. ^_^;
