First: The PSP's hardware almost out performs the PS2 and is capable of things that PS1 never even dreamed of.
Second: The Price of the PSP is going to be around $200 and the DS will probably open at closer to $100. However the DS's cartridge games will still run you around 30-40 bucks and the UMDs that the PSP is using will only be $15.
Third: The space on the UMD's is significantly larger than that of cartridges.
Fourth: Sony has all but barred direct port games.
I know Nintedo has cornered the market on handhelds forever, but I think that PSP will at least give them a run for there money if not surpass them as the handheld leaders. The big price difference on release is what is going to kill PSP. But I still plan on owning one, and unless they release something I cant live without on DS I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. |

to clear up a couple of things.
1) PSP is actually looking more to the $250 to $300 range with games from $15 - $30 (most around $25 I think)
2) DS is going to be somewhere around $180 with games from $35 - $50
3) Both use WiFi, not bluetooth... I think
4) PSP backward compatible? With what?
5) DS is backward compatible. There are 2 cart ports (one on each side). One takes DS titles, one takes GB, GBC, GBA titles.
6) You will see a ton of ports on the psp. Why, b/c the price of the game is so cheap, that it will be hard to make back the cash for a game with a multimillion dollar budget. But if they put it on PS2, and port it to PSP, the price of porting it is close to nothing compared to the price of making the game, so it's possible to make an even bigger profit. This is what is happening with Gran Turismo 4. The mobile version will be a direct port with some scaled down graphics.
7) The UMD is a 3" 1.8G CD wrapped in a protective Rom Casing. Think of a GC game with a little plastic case over it.
8 ) The PSP will be a portable media center. Games, MP3s, Movies and I'm sure more to come. The DS is more than a game player, but not much more. There is a chat client on it so that you can wirelessly chat with other DS owners in the area. It also has a little scetchy deal where you can draw something on the screen and send it to another DS owner in the area.
I will probably get both eventually, but I won't get either of them one release day. When Y's VI comes out, I may pick up a PSP. But the DS. I agree with Therin on this one, how do you control a dood with one hand and tap on the screen with the other. This is a retarded idea and it's not going to work very well. You need the other hand on the machine to make it more stable. And the 2 screen thing. When is it ever going to be used except for a map of some sort. So far, that's all they have been able to show us as a use for it.
Metal Gear Acid I'm curious about, but I haven't liked any of the CARD games in the past, what makes me think I will like this one. Well Konami is good, but are they that good? Will it be multiplayer? Will it use the over powering system like YuGiOh? I have my doubts about this one.
If most things are ports on the PSP, I'm not sure I will be able to buy one. Same with the DS. I don't get to play protables enough to justify that. Besides, I still have a ton of GBA games I haven't finished as well as my protable PSone that I use on road trips. |

I think the DS will die, unless Big N decides to cut GBA games too. I know they aren't, but I think the PSP's main competition will be the SP.

Nah... the fact that the DS will play the GBA games will help the situation for Nintendo |

I think people are underestimating the DS. Its gimicky yes but knowing nintendo they will make it work. I mean look at the GCN controller looked really really weird when i first saw it but it was so comfortable. I dont expect to be usin the stylus for each and every game. PSP looks interesting too, Good hardware but as we all know the best hardware doesnt necessarily mean best system. I heard that the games will be cheap but what worries me is that when they start developing exclusive games with such high graphics in order to keep them high quality they will need to spend more time developing them etc to the point that they will cost as much as a console game. There's an awful lot of ports coming over to psp which has me worried as well. |

Another thing that needs to be thrown in the price of game mix is the fact that the UMD are supposed to cost significantly less per copy to product. That will also be a driving factor in the psp games being less than the ds games. |

like i said though. The games are going to make or break my purchases for either system. I don't care too much about eye candy. Fun factor is numero uno in my book. Ill have my eyes on both of them until they come out. |
