I'm NEVER getting a car!!!!!

OK so I've been car hunting since april 04 that makes it....6 months that I've been looking for a freakin car!!!!! See this is what happens.....I'll go looking for cars with or without my dad. Then I come home tell him about the cars that I've seen do carfaxes on them, print out consumer reports on them, call geico to see how much insurance is, and then we sit down and talk about it!
Well today I went all the way to queens to this huge used car place to look at cars with my friend who lives around there. It was freakin HUGE and soooo overwhelming, but nonetheless we looked around searching for my car. My friend knows someone that works at that place and he hooked us up with his friend that works there as well (because he wasn't working that day). We go and look at a ton of cars in my range and stuff like that. We found this 2003 hundai elentra sedan hatch. It has super low miles and power everything and a sun roof and all that stuff. So I ask the guy for a carfax on it and then i tell him that I'll think about it.
So, I came home told my dad what I found printed out all the consumer report stuff on it any everything! Then when I was done I asked my dad if we can sit down and have a chat about it, and we started to. UNTIL my dad was reading through the print outs and a little bit of a word was cut off becase it printed in protrait not landscape, so he asked me to print everything out in landscape. Even though it was a pain in the ass I did it without a problem and it took me about 2 mins. Well, I came back to talk to my dad only to find that he's ON THE FREAKIN PHONE!!!!! What the hell!!!!! The phone definitely DID NOT ring!!!!!! What a jerk!!!!!
Every time I talk to my dad about cars and such he ALWAYS either finds a reason not for me to buy the car, or he doesn't want to talk about it!!!!!
Now I'm 21 here, it's not like i need his permission or anything to buy it I just want to consulte him to see what he thinks, and it would be great to have his approval and everything. BUT I SWEAR HE DOESN"T WANT ME TO GET A CAR!!!!!!!!!!
This sucks and right know I"m piping made (as if you can't tell). AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Perhaps this belongs in the Soapbox Section, eh? I can totally understand your frustration (parents usually are... in many ways....).
I'd say just buy the car without him, if possible. Sounds like you're all over it. But, being the awesome Underpants that you are, that's not unusual. Wink

Hey babe! Don't you worry, everything will work out, I promise. Not that I'm saying you should disobey your parents, etc, but you're right, you're 21 and can buy a car if you want. You're so on top of things, and I'M so proud that you're so careful and are going about this car thing is such a responsible way. I'm sure that whatever you choose to do will be the right decision...because you rock!

Anyways, i just went to the bank to deposit a check and then went to drive around with the car radio all the way up (it makes me feel better) and I came home and the bastard still isn't off the freakin phone!!!!! I mean gosh darrnit!!!!!!!!!

Like many others have said, you can probably do this without your dad. I have a friend who only needs to consult his mom on the aspect of insurance. Otherwise, he's ready to get a car. Heck, he has the money, resources, and ability to purchase his own car. Supposedly he'll get it by this weekend. OH, he's also 16. I'm sure that if he can do it, oyu can too so don't quit if you really want a car.

well, i think that what you are doing is the right thing, consulting your father...which is why im gonna say that you should stick with talking with him...since he DOES have years of experience and wisdom over you. If anything, he's on the phone calling the insurance company and comparing prices.

It's just that he wants to make sure you do everything right. Sometimes, it seems like it may be a thwarting attempt...but its just a parent making sure.

Ok so here's the update (if anyone's interested)..............
Ming and I went inbetween classes and test drove the car and it handles really well!!! It's really smooth and the whole clutch thing handles excellent!!!
With or without my dad I'm considering buying this car. He's been sorta helpful, but my mom understands where I'm coming from. Oh well. hopefully I'll have a car by the end of the week!!!!
