1st, what I meant about my teacher knowing the tricks and stuff I meant as to helping us students (especially the bookworms) prepare for it, not cheat it. 2nd, I'm already used to pressure on standardized tests considering I need to pass on in order to graduate high school. Our state puts so much pressure on that test that we have whole semester classes designed to help the stupid kids pass it.

Cheats: Anyone else seen that episode of Mission Hill? ("The code!")

Are you serious? You've actually got whole classes situated towards getting kids through the SATs? That's nuts. Anyone with half a brain can go well on the SAT. It doesn't test you on anything overly advanced. That's what the Advanced SATs are for (can't remember what they're called, the ones that test on particular subjects). The normal SAT can be done with some simple practices and techniques. No big.

It's true, Sperrit, that having an entire class seems like (and probably is) overkill, but with the emphasis on standardized test scores as a measure of performance and effectiveness of teaching, you can see where such things might appear if the teaching corps is unsure that their normal methods will be sufficient.

I'm not sure whether it's the administration hindering a good teaching process or teachers who just might not be up to snuff, but either way, a class like that signifies that people just aren't getting it done normally, that they have to teach towards a test.
