This is very exciting. Treadmills are quickly becoming the norm in RPGs and frankly its very boring. I was very dissapointed with FFXI, as I though square would do something new and just did the same old things. Wish seems like its being made by a bunch of ppl that want to do new things. I like the idea of never repeating quests. "If you kill a pack of wolves, you cant wait all day for the wolves to respawn. Those wolves are dead and gone." |

Vaporware, in my opinion.
I wouldn't get yer hopes up... A lot of what they are declaring and proposing are VERY ambituous ideas that take a LOT of time to pull off. There are also some extremely oxymoronical ideas within the FAQ.
Point a) The game will be released when it's done.
- Yet they have a release timeframe of 2nd quarter 2005
- Yet all quests will be GM-generated, therefore the game is not complete when it ships, for it needs the GMs to operate.
Point b) Nothing respawns, if an NPC dies, it's dead.
- So when a PC dies, is he completely dead?
- Where do new NPCs come from if they never respawn? Procreation? Cloning?
I highly doubt that everything they claim will be able to be done when and if this game is released. The screenshots look very very iffy. There's some very generic fantasy going on, but absolutely nothing that screams unique or style. There are a lot of things being declared that failed horribly in SWG due to the concepts simply not working in an MMORPG setting. Will Wish get them right? Who knows. However, I am very skeptical.
The title is very appropriate. We all wish MMORPGs could be this way. However, companies need to realize that not everything ideal is always possible while creating a solid game.
Here's a few more stats to enter. Currently, there is an MMORPG that is doing this exact same thing, by the way of constant live content and story. It's called the Legends server on Everquest. Currently, subscriberes to Legends pay $40 a month, because of all the work those GMs do to keep everyone entertained. Approximately 1,000 players are involved with this server. Wish is planning on doing the same thing, but for a gigantic world that supports up to 10,000 players? And nothing will ever happen twice? Players will feel as if their existance is meaningful and part of a greater story? Again, I can not help but be the ultimate skeptic. |
